    The first way to reach Long Island from Port Blair by sea is by taking a government ferry. This one-day trip follows the route from Port Blair to Long Island, stopping at Havelock Island, Neil Island, Rangat, and Long Island. Please note that the ferry doesn’t operate daily; therefore, ticket booking opens one day prior to the ferry’s departure.

    The second way is to hire a private chartered boat from Port Blair to Long Island.     Port Blair to Long Island Via Rangat by Road

    A journey by road is the most common and affordable travel route to Long Island, which typically involves traveling to Rangat via the Andaman Grand Trunk Road by bus and then taking a 1-2 hour government ferry from Rangat Jetty to Long Island. The government-operated bus departs from the Aberdeen bus depot in Port Blair at 4:30 AM and takes approximately 8–9 hours to cover the 170 kilometers to reach the jetty.

    Note that the government-operated ferry from Rangat to Long Island operates every alternate day, i.e., Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, or Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. This schedule is subject to change at any time without prior notice due to weather conditions and other unexpected circumstances. Additionally, ticket bookings cannot be made 2–3 days before the journey; however, tickets can be booked one day before travel, subject to availability and weather conditions.   

    Booking a personal cab from Port Blair to Rangat is another option for reaching Rangat, where the driver can assist in obtaining a government ferry ticket to Long Island, subject to availability.

    Havelock & Neil Island to Long Island by Govt Ferry

    Visiting Long Island from Havelock or Neil Island can be reached by a government ferry. This ferry operates on alternate days and is the same one that departs from Phoenix Bay Jetty (Port Blair), stopping at Havelock, Neil, and Rangat before reaching Long Island.

    The Govt. ferry mostly reserved for locals, tourist prefers others options as it can’t provide the comfort and luxury during the long journey. But, if you have less budget, you can give it a try. Remember the Govt. ferry to Long Island doesn’t operate regularly, always check the schedule on STARS e-ticketing portal and plan your journey accordingly.
